Dr Sadgun Bhandari - Senior House Officer and Registrar

Dr Sadgun Bhandari is a knowledgeable and well qualified General Adult Psychiatry Consultant, who trained both in India and the UK. His training in India included working as a House Officer in Neurology, and later as a Resident in Psychiatry with posts in Adult Psychiatry, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Neurology and Psychological Therapies, Alcohol and Substance Abuse first at National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), Bangalore, India and then the Central Institute of Psychiatry (CIP), Ranchi, India. Following completion of his MD in Psychological Medicine he worked as a Senior Resident in Adult Psychiatry and Substance Abuse at NIMHANS, Bangalore, India


In the UK, he trained as a Senior House Officer and Registrar in the Bedfordshire Rotation in Adult and Old Age Psychiatry and as Senior Registrar in Psychiatry in the Royal London Rotation at Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel and Mile End Hospital.

As a trainee he was also involved in number of activities including becoming the Junior Doctors representative in the Medical Staff Committee of the hospital (from 1993- 1994); Audit coordinator for the Psychiatric unit; and Senior Registrars representative for the Royal London Rotation (from 1994- 1997);


As a Consultant Dr Bhandari was the Secretary of the Medical Advisory Committee of the East London and City Mental Health NHS Trust (1997- 2001) and later the Chair of the Medical Advisory Committee (2001 – 2005).


Currently he is the Chair of Eastern Division of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, after having completed 2 years as Vice Chair. Being a Chair, he involves chairing Executive Committee meetings of the Division as well as attending Council Meetings of the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
